Walking up and down stairs can take some effort, as I discovered these few days. Now, I can understand how the uncle who stays upstairs feel whenever he walks down the stairs, 2 feet on a step, to catch the lift. Something that is so natural such as walking can be taken for granted. If not for the little injury, I wouldn't have realized that.
In this, I came to appreciate the beauty of walking slowly. Some time back, there was a newspaper article about how Singaporeans walk very fast and seems to be ranked #1, ahead of fast paced cities like Hong Kong and Tokyo. We are always in a rush. To get work done, to have our meals. It's little wonder that fast food restaurants thrive in Singapore....
But once I recover and get back into the swing of things, most probably will forget this 'virtue' of walking slowly.
What are we really rushing for?
