Over the last weekend, Dearie & I had the chance to watch the above mentioned. Helen Mirren did a really superb job at portraying Queen Elizabeth. It was interesting to see the other side of things i.e. how Queen Elizabeth coped with Princess Diana's passing (the People's Princess). Another perspective was her interactions with the then newly elected Prime Minister Blair. From initial distrust to how they gradually built an unspoken bond. At least, that was how I perceived it.
Yet another fascinating thing was the role of the monarchy in the people's hearts and their expectations of it. I mean it is a modern society where government head of states have been instituted to 'run' countries. How these monarchies and constitutions work hand-in-hand in today's world is just unbelievable. And at one part, the movie showed just how the royal family was still bounded by traditional beliefs in terms of what the people will be thinking.
