Was supposed to attend web page design training (off-site) using Microsoft Word yesterday with some of my colleagues. Upon arrival at the training centre, we were informed that the trainer had urgent matters and was not available. After discussing options such as returning to office (the far, far West) or attending one of their complimentary MS Office course, we opted to attend the Designer PowerPoint course.
The course exposed us to the concepts aspect of presentations and it was a new slant to things. Perhaps not all the things taught may be applicable in our jobs, but still it helped opened my eyes to many new things. Afterall, most of the training I attend nowadays is mostly HR related. Attending a course outside of the HR scope helps to broaden the perspective again and remind myself that there's more to life, other than HR and work. This brought me back to university days when our International Business tutor critiqued our group's presentation for being too HR-centric in analysis.... So attending the complimentary course was really a refreshing 'enlightenment'!
