Holy Trinity Sunday

Today is Holy Trinity Sunday. It marks God as being the father, son and the holy spirit. This part is really hard to grasp. It is still so for me. I guess it's primarily due to exposure to other church's teachings that did not shed any light on this.

We were attending mass @ CTK. Was surprised to see Father Y during the homily as we understood from the parish secretary that he was on leave and will only be back next week!

He shared on glimpses of life from his eyes. Here are the main pointers:

1. Life is difficult
2. No pain, no gain
3. The past is history and the future is mystery

Indeed, can relate to the first point. Living in Singapore is not easy with the high cost of living and work stress. If we are not aware, we may be sucked into the rat race, where we fight to stay in front. This is extremely tiring, at least to me. Also, societal norms are such that we have to climb the career ladder, get richer and richer, ensure our children are taught school work from a young age and rushing here and there in our daily lives, on the roads etc.

No pain, no gain. To this, Father Y likened it to the concept of failure molding us to be more successful, which is familiar to many of us. What we see as a dreadful thing actually happens for a good reason. This is hard to accept for many of us too, as we are conditioned in school and society to be in control of our lives. Giving up control is difficult. I remember the game played by Explosive Minds (during the HR Summit) that illustrates this.

The last pointer is actually no stranger too. There was a TCS drama back in year 2000 that had this theme woven quite strongly into its storyline, starred by James Lye. Father Y was explaining that we should not put judgement tags on what happened in the past.

Like the homily for it being down to earth!
