Friday was the regular year-end celebration that we have in the company. Employees get to enjoy food, take part in either performances / games and stand a chance to win lucky draw prizes.
This was the 2nd one I attended. But this year's experience was different for me. I was asked to partner my colleague, R, as the co-host for the event. The co-host was supposed to be another committee member, however she couldn't make it as she was on MC. On Thursday, E asked me whether I would like to try being the co-host. Definitely there were reservations on my part, as it would be pretty last minute to prepare for. But upon E & R's encouragement, I decided to take up the job after calibrating their expectations on my limitations in terms of energy level. E reassured R and me that he was not looking for entertainment and told us to just relax and go with the flow.
Hours before the event, I was quite nervous trying to juggle preparations for the award winners as well as looking through the script. Thankfully, my colleagues, E & C, volunteered to help in getting the venue ready and that allowed me to have more time preparing. I remembered R starting the hosting and when it was my turn, I was still nervous. As I told "stories" of the award winners to the audience, I can feel a change within me from having stage fright to gradually relaxing into the mood.. On the whole, the event was quite a success and the credit goes to the entire committee and the volunteers.
On a personal front, I was glad for E & R's encouragement. I reflected about the event on the way back. Started realizing that although I had not asked from God specifically for his blessings and help in this event, he was there to see me through it smoothly. It reminded me of humility and also to take it as a learning experience in becoming better next time. I was also very thankful to Dearie for his understanding towards my recent busy work schedule. All this enabled me to take things in stride and just go with the flow!
Thank you, Lord for being there with me and guiding me to fulfill my role for the event, in spite of the last minute preparations!
